Guided Mindfulness Hiking Series (Thursday, October 19, 2017 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm)

Who doesn’t love an occasional hike in the great outdoors?  Add an extra awareness to the experience and your outing can benefit both your mind and body.  Being outdoors increases well-being, immunity, helps alleviate stress and anxiety, promotes creativity, assists with recovery from mental fatigue, helps restore attention, boosts the brain’s ability to think and engages the senses.

Join one of our naturalists and explore the Sheldrake property over a 4 week period with guided mindful hikes and exercises.  Hikes are scheduled for the following dates: Thursday October 5, 12, 19 and 26 (rain or shine) 1 pm to 2pm.

The following themes will be explored:

Week 1:  Tune in…..  Introduction to the Sheldrake property, it’s history and local flora and fauna.  Introduction to the mind, body, spirit benefits of forest bathing.

Week 2: Sensory walk….  The group we’ll explore their senses as you walk around the pond.  There will be 5 stops and time to explore each sense along the way.

Week 3:  Get a little closer….. The group will perform some exercises intended to more deeply connect with the living and non-living things in the forest.

Week 4: Gift to the forest…..  Now that we’ve connected with the forest over the past 3 weeks, we’ll separate and walk as individuals with an intention of finding a place that we feel a strong connection to. It will be your own personal spot that you can always come back to in order to reconnect.

FREE for members. $20 for series for non-members.  Please fill out form below to register.

The Woman’s Club of Larchmont will present a program on country music. Singer, musician and storyteller Gayden Wren as Tennessee Walt will explore an often overlooked slice of America’s Musical Heritage  - Great Women of Country Music.

Even better than the first half which was presented last year, this time around people can expect songs associated with Kitty Wells, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and even Taylor Swift.  Female stars (other than in family acts) didn't arrive in country music until the mid-1950s and Tennessee Walt has arranged a chronological look at these country stars. There will also be an opportunity for audience requests.

The program is free and open to the public.  For further information contact Siobhan Burrell at 914-833-1538.
